Abstract

Natural dyeing has a renewable source and are biodegradable by nature, with a low environmental impact, however, poor or moderate color fastness is a characteristic associated with natural dyeing, and according to Singhee (2020) explains by the absence of a standardized procedure. The objective of the research was to evaluate the effects of 4 factors on color fastness to sunlight; with a quantitative cross-sectional approach, 2^4 factorial design, 2 replicates without center points were performed. The effects of dyeing ratio A, dye extraction method B, pre-mordanting C and dyeing time D; color fastness was evaluated was evaluated according to NTP 231.183:1986 and NTP 231.005:2014. The results found indicate that factors B, C, D and 2-factor and 3-factor interactions have no significant effect on color fastness to sunlight.  The only factor that has effect on color fastness is the dyeing ratio factor A with p value = 0.048. In conclusion, the factors: extraction methods, pre etching and dyeing time have no statistical effect on color fastness to sunlight, while the dyeing ratio does have influence on color fastness; it is recommended to investigate other dyeing factors such as temperature, ph, and include the boiling extraction method, by the results obtained by Punyachareonnon (2021) in dyeing with black bean on silk fabrics.
